Living with dementia can be very challenging. The right support can make a huge difference to the wellbeing of someone living with dementia and their carers.

Dementia Advisers

Wigan Alzheimer’s Society Dementia Advisers provide information, advice and signposting to people with dementia and their carers. This is provided at the point of diagnosis and throughout the dementia journey.

B’s Memory Café

Dementia café which welcomes people living with dementia and their carers, including non-residents. Advice available from a Belong Admiral Nurse. At various venues across the Borough.

Lewy Body Society

The Lewy Body Society provides information and resources for patients and carers. Their mission is to fund clinical research to improve the diagnosis and treatment of the disease and raise awareness of Lewy body dementia among the general public and those in the medical profession and decision-making positions.

Age UK Trafford

The Memory Loss Advice Service has two dementia advisers and a Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) adviser. The service provides a regular point of contact and ongoing support, prior to or after a diagnosis of dementia or MCI, so that you and your family or carers needs are met.

Monthly peer support meetings for people with a diagnosis of dementia and their families or carers to attend.

Passion for Life – Sale

A dementia specific day support service that maintains and encourages independence; provides an opportunity for social interaction with peers; enhances self confidence and wellbeing; promotes physical and intellectual stimulation and retains and encourages life skills. Age UK Tameside Dementia Service

Age UK Tameside will work with you and your carer to find help and support that works for you. We offer advice, a buddy to visit you at home and weekly Maintenance Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (MCST) activity group.

Tameside and Glossop Memory Service

Service provided by Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust. Provides help for people in Tameside and Glossop who are experiencing problems with memory, to get a diagnosis of organic mental disorders like dementia.

They can also recommend treatment for Alzheimers’ Disease.

After you have been diagnosed, they will offer support and advice through in-house sessions. They also refer and signpost to social care, voluntary services, and other helpful organisations.

Dementia Support Stockport

The Alzheimer’s Society provides personalised help and advice for people with dementia and their carers. Depending on your needs, they can offer information and signposting or ongoing support regardless of whether you are worried about your memory, have a diagnosis of dementia or are a carer, family or friend.

Step Out Stockport

Step Out is a day-time service for adults offering a safe and welcoming place where people can socialise, join in with structured activities and receive support and assistance.

The service is provided through daytime sessions based at Whitehill Resource Centre in Reddish.

Each session runs between 9.30am and 4.00pm, Monday – Saturday, except on public holidays. Attendance can be booked for more than one session across the week.

The Dementia Support Service offers an easy to access one-stop-shop of online and face to face support across the city for those living with dementia and their families and carers.

The service operates an open referral system – you can approach them personally or through a relative, friend or carer.

Rochdale Mind

Dementia wellbeing service offers mental health and emotional wellbeing support to those living with dementia, their carers and their families living in the Borough of Rochdale.

Bolton Dementia Support

A charity offering support for everyone in the Bolton area who has been diagnosed with any form of dementia. Support is also available for carers.

They offer a range of activities, events, and resources designed to support people living with dementia and those who care for them. The charity provides two afternoon Memory Cafes’ each week throughout the borough.

It is run by professional staff, supported by volunteers and former carers all of whom have experience of living and supporting someone with dementia.

Dementia UK is a specialist dementia nursing charity. They have lots of help, advice and support through their website. There is also a Dementia Helpline which you can call on 0800 888 6678. The Helpline is open seven days a week, 9 am – 9 pm Monday to Friday, and 9 am – 5 pm on weekends.
