Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC)

Urgent Treatment Centres (UTCs) provide fast, expert care for minor illnesses and injuries that are urgent but not life-threatening. They are open every day, including evenings, weekends, and bank holidays, and you don’t need an appointment—though you may be referred by NHS 111 or your GP.

UTCs can treat a wide range of conditions such as:

• Minor fractures and sprains
• Cuts and wounds (including stitches)
• Minor burns and scalds
• Infections (including ear, throat, and urinary tract)
• High temperature or fever in children and adults
• Abdominal pain, vomiting, and diarrhoea

Staffed by experienced doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals, UTCs aim to reduce pressure on A&E departments by offering timely care closer to home. They work closely with other NHS services to ensure you get the right treatment, in the right place, as quickly as possible.

If you’re unsure whether a UTC is right for you, call NHS 111 or use the NHS 111 online service for advice and to find your nearest centre.
