I am conducting research into the use of AI by public authorities.

Please provide

1. The policy/policies for the use and development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) within the organization and its staff.
2. The full minutes of the meeting where the policy/policies above were discussed prior to being formally signed off.
3. The risk register entry/entries (if applicable) for the use of AI by staff.

1. NHS Greater Manchester (NHS GM) do not have an approved policy for the use of AI.
2. N/A
3. NHS GM does hold the information requested; however, we consider this information to be exempt information under paragraph 31(1)(a) Law Enforcement, of the Freedom of Information Act.

31.(1) Information which is not exempt information by virtue of section 30 is exempt information if its disclosure under this Act would, or would be likely to, prejudice –

(a) the prevention or detection of crime,

Public interest test

There is an inherent public interest in ensuring that there is openness and transparency in the spending of public money.

However, releasing the information could be harmful by way of making the organisation, and by virtue the patients it serves, vulnerable to crime.

After considering the arguments outlined above, we have decided to withhold this information in the interest of crime prevention.
