FOI 2026/1566

Reference FOI 2026/1566
Description Total expenditure on healthcare provision for asylum seekers residing in the the local area of Trafford
Date Requested 20/01/2026
Date Replied 12/02/2026
Category Finance

Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, I request the following recorded information:

  1. The total expenditure on healthcare provision for asylum seekers residing in the local area of Trafford (or your relevant categorisation of the area around Trafford if records are stored differently) for the period 1 April 2024 to 31 March 2025 (or the most recent 12-month period available).
  1. Please provide a breakdown of this expenditure by service category, for example (if recorded in this way):
    1. Primary care (including GP services)
    1. Secondary care (including hospital-based treatment)
    1. Mental health services
    1. Public health screening and vaccination
    1. Specialist services for unaccompanied asylum-seeking children (UASC)
    1. Other relevant categories

  1. If asylum seeker–specific expenditure is not recorded directly, please provide any available aggregated data where costs are linked to:
    1. Patients residing at known Home Office–commissioned accommodation addresses in the local area
    1. Services commissioned specifically for asylum seekers or refugees in the local area

This request is for aggregated/statistical financial data only. I am not requesting personal health records or information that could identify individuals.

If the information is not held in exactly this form but could be produced from existing records with minimal manipulation, please provide it in the easiest form for the ICB to extract. Other Trusts have been willing to do so.

If any part of this request exceeds the cost limit, please process the remainder and advise how it could be refined to remain within the limit.

  1. £156k. This represents the costs of services specifically commissioned for asylum seekers. Beyond this, NHS Greater Manchester (NHS GM) does not hold data as to the cost of other health services procured by NHS GM which may be used by asylum seekers, as data held does not record a patient’s immigration status. For example – NHS GM procures Accident and Emergency services from various NHS Hospital Trusts, but NHS GM does not hold data as to the immigration status of patients attending A&E departments within Greater Manchester.
  2. All expenditure specifically associated with Asylum seekers in the Trafford area for the year 2024/25 is classified as Primary Care expenditure
  3. Similarly, NHS GM does not hold data in respect of the registered address of individual patients.
