Description HIHAP - Hair, Hormones and Integrated Health Assessment Pathway
Date Requested 17/06/2026
Date Replied 10/07/2026
Category Data, Insight & Intelligence

I am reaching out as I am developing HIHAP (Hair, Hormones and Integrated Health Assessment Pathway), a health initiative focused on improving understanding and management of hair loss presentations through a more integrated approach involving hormonal, metabolic and wider health factors.

To support the development of an evidence-based business case, I am gathering anonymised pathway data to better understand the current patient journey and NHS resource impact.

I would be extremely grateful if you could advise whether the following data may be available within your systems (ideally over the past 3–5 years):

  1. Number of patients presenting with hair loss/alopecia-related codes
  2. Number of GP consultations or repeat consultations relating to hair loss
  3. Blood tests associated with these presentations (where available)
  4. Dermatology referrals and follow up activity
  5. Endocrinology, gynaecology or women’s health referrals linked to related symptoms (where available)
  6. Waiting times or pathway information if available

The purpose of this work is to identify potential gaps in current care pathways and explore how earlier, more integrated assessment could improve patient outcomes and reduce repeated healthcare utilisation.

  1. NHS GM does not hold the information requested in question 1 of your request relating to code lists for hair loss / alopecia. As such we believe that the cost of collating the information in order to respond to this section of your request would exceed the ‘appropriate limit’ of £450 as defined by the Freedom of Information and Data Protection (Appropriate Limit and Fees) Regulations 2004.  As a result, we are refusing this part of your request under section 12(1) of the Freedom of Information Act 2000.
  2. Please refer to question 1.
