This is a Freedom of Information request made to Section 1 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (“FOIA”) to:

  1. Chapel Group Medical Centre; and 
  2. Salford Integrated Care Board 

I hereby request a copy of any document which states that:

  1. a) All Mental Health Reviews in the Salford and / or Greater Manchester area must be conducted face to face; and / or
  2. b) Which sets out the requirement upon GP surgeries to undertake Mental Health Reviews annually or at all; and / or 
  3. c) Which sets out the definition of Severe Mental Illness. 

1 a) All Mental Health Reviews in the Salford and / or Greater Manchester area must be conducted face to face; and / or

 

N/a – there are no local documents/ service specifications in the Salford and/ or Greater Manchester area that set out that mental health reviews must be conducted face to face. 

 

The following national policy guidance released by NHS England in January 2024 recommends that choice is offered in how people with severe mental illness are offered an appointment for an annual physical health check.

b) Which sets out the requirement upon GP surgeries to undertake Mental Health Reviews annually or at all; and / or

 

In addition to the NHSE guidance on Improving the physical health of people living with severe mental illness, please see link to the GP Quality and Outcomes framework for 2026/27 which gives the indicators for mental health that GP practices are asked to prioritise and are remunerated against. These indicators align to 5 of the 6 key elements of the annual physical health check that should be provided to people on the Severe Mental Illness (SMI) register.

Manchester, Salford, Stockport and Trafford localities also provide enhanced schemes for people with SMI to support GP practices to undertake comprehensive annual physical health checks.  Please see attached documents for more information on these local GP enhanced schemes.

c) Which sets out the definition of Severe Mental Illness.

N/a – there are no local documents that NHS GM hold that set out the exact definition of Severe Mental Illness. NHS GM will work to National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), NHS England and Department for Health and Social Care (DHSC) guidance.
