Reference FOI2026/1939
Description Adult neurological care in residential and nursing homes
Date Requested 03/08/2026
Date Replied 27/08/2026
Category Continuing Health Care (CHC)

Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, I would like the following information about adult neurological care in residential and nursing homes.

Which placements to include: Continuing Healthcare (fully funded), joint-funded, Funded Nursing Care where the ICB holds it, and Section 117. If some of this sits with councils or a mental health trust, please answer for what the ICB holds and note where the rest sits. Please answer from your CHC / commissioning system – there is no need to review individual case notes.

All questions relate to adults aged 18 to 64 funded by the ICB in long-term residential or nursing care.

Information requested

  1. Please supply the name, job title, telephone number and email address of the commissioner with responsibility for neurological (or complex physical and cognitive care) placements for adults aged 18 to 64.
  2. Please provide the total number of adults aged 18 to 64 with a neurological need funded by the ICB in long-term residential care, and separately in nursing care. Please give an end-of-year snapshot (at 31 March) for 2025/26.
  3. Please provide the number of new long-term placements made for adults aged 18 to 64 with a neurological need – residential and nursing separately. Please give the number during 2025/26 (year to 31 March 2026).
  4. Please provide the highest, lowest and average weekly rate paid for residential and nursing placements for adults aged 18 to 64 with a neurological need, for 2025/26. If you use weekly rate bands, please give these too.
  5. Please provide a list of providers of residential and nursing care used by the ICB to place adults aged 18 to 64 with a neurological need in long-term care. For each provider, please give the setting (residential or nursing), the number of service users, and the gross expenditure, using the latest month available (or financial year 2025/26 if not), and state the month used.
  6. Does the ICB consider there is sufficient local residential and nursing provision to meet the needs of adults with neurological needs in the ICB area?

As we are transitioning from a locality based model to a centralised NHSGM model, there have been different approaches in each locality and as such, data has been collected in different ways.
