(FOI 1811) I would like to ask an additional question, as the trusts that carry out the dementia assessment requires specialised nurses/doctors, and as most dementia reviews are carried out by primary care e.g. the GP practice, what training has been provided by the ICB to GP practices to allow the dementia review to carried out safely?

If a training programme is not provided by the ICB to the GP practices then by who?

NHS Greater Manchester Integrated Care Board does not provide a standardised dementia training programme for GP practices to enable the delivery of annual dementia reviews. Responsibility for ensuring that clinicians are appropriately trained, competent and supported to undertake the services they provide rests with the employing organisation and individual GP practices.

To note, there is no standardised formal training that GP practices are required to undertake in order to complete annual dementia reviews. GP practices undertake reviews for a range of long-term conditions, including dementia, as part of their ongoing clinical responsibilities.

NHS England provides guidance on good practice care and support planning, which highlights the importance of annual dementia reviews and supports clinicians in delivering personalised care. This guidance includes examples of templates and proformas that can be used to support the review process.
