Date Requested 20/08/2026
Date Replied 14/09/2026
Category Contract Management

Could I please request information regarding the commissioning of Urgent Treatment Centres, Minor Injury Units and Walk-in Centres in your region. The specific things I am interested in are as follows:

  • Which of these services are currently run in your region?
  • Who is the current provider of these services?
  • Which of these services went through procurement and which were a direct award?
  • What is the annual spend of each of these contracts?
  • What is the start date and duration of the contract?
  • Is there an extension clause in the framework(s)/contract(s) and, if so, what is the duration of the extension?
  • Has a decision been made yet on whether the contract(s) are being either extended or renewed?
  • Is there an aim to go out to procurement for this service? If so, when do you envisage this occurring?

Urgent Treatment Centres (UTCs) delivered by NHS acute trusts, either independently or as part of a joint provision arrangement with other providers, are commissioned under the overarching NHS Acute Contract and are not separately commissioned or contracted services.

It is therefore not possible to separately identify costs for Urgent Treatment Centres, Minor Injury Units, and Walk-in Centres within the contracts held by Greater Manchester NHS Trusts. This is because NHS Trusts do not differentiate between Accident and Emergency (A&E) attendances and attendances at other urgent care services, including UTCs, Minor Injury Units, and Walk-in Centres, within the datasets routinely reported to the ICB. As a result, costs and activity relating to these services are incorporated within the wider acute contract, and the ICB is unable to accurately disaggregate or attribute expenditure to individual service lines.

Consequently, not all of the requested information is held in a reportable format and cannot be provided.

An excel document was sent to the requester with this response.  If you require a copy of the full response, together with the attachments, please contact NHS GM’s FOI team – nhsgm.foi@nhs.net
