Reference FOI2026/2093
Description Bolton GP Practices, Care Home Residents and Bolton Quality Contract Prescribing Targets - linked to FOI 2034
Date Requested 12/10/2026
Date Replied 19/10/2026
Category Prescribing

Thank you for the information provided. However, my request was intended to explore whether practices with large numbers of care home residents are disadvantaged with respect to prescribing-related elements of the Bolton Quality Contract due to the higher prescribing costs associated with this patient cohort.

The data supplied relate to the Structured Medication Review (SMR) component of the contract and do not appear to include achievement against prescribing indicators or prescribing-related payments.

Please could you provide:

Achievement against any prescribing indicators contained within the Bolton Quality Contract for each practice.

Payments made in relation to those prescribing indicators.

The target prescribing budget and the %age of the full funding that was issued to the practices for the last 3 years.

The data suggests that practices look after hundreds of care home residents. Are the numbers provided based on care home residents that were registered at any point in that year (meaning some moved or died). Please could you clarify how these numbers are calculated.

An excel document was sent to the requester with this response.  If you require a copy of the full response, together with the attachments, please contact NHS GM’s FOI team – nhsgm.foi@nhs.net

Please note, in relation to the number of care homes residents provided as part of FOI 2034 – we are unable to provide care home resident numbers for Bolton GP practices at this time as we are not assured of the completeness of the data source we would use. This is a known issue, and we are working on a solution, however this will not be available in time for this request.
