Manchester Maternity and Neonatal Voices Partnership (MNVP) leads receive vital bereavement training.

An MNVP listens to the experiences of women, birthing people, and families, and brings together service users, staff, and other stakeholders to plan, review and improve maternity and neonatal care.

Our MNVP leads have received training to be enable them to work with bereaved people and to direct them to services in Greater Manchester.

The training was delivered by members of the bereavement team at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust. They learned about what bereavement support is and what is on offer for families.

Our local MNVPs are looking for women, birthing people, and families to get involved with their work. Whether it’s simply giving feedback or getting more involved in co-producing services, you can make a real difference for people having babies in Greater Manchester.

Ashleigh Reed, North Manchester MNVP lead said:

“The bereavement training was extremely valuable. Previously, I knew there was a dedicated bereavement team but was unsure what that looked like. We learned what type of support is on offer and what a family’s journey could look like. We learnt about the different voluntary organisations and charities the team work with, and what type of support they can offer.

We came away with a much deeper understanding of the experiences of bereaved families. I would now feel more comfortable speaking with a bereaved parent knowing what terminology to use and also in signposting women and families to further support.”

It is hoped that this training will shortly be rolled out to all Greater Manchester MNVP and engagement leads so that they can all benefit from this valuable learning.
