Feedback on being asked if you would be willing to move hospital.
Waiting times for planned hospital services are much longer than we would like them to be at the moment. Hospitals across Greater Manchester are working hard to see and treat people as soon as possible.
While many patients are experiencing long waits for treatment, different services within the same hospital will have different waiting times. The waiting times for the same type of service at different hospitals may also be quite different.
As a patient, you can already choose to transfer your care to another hospital if they have a shorter waiting time. This can be for a single test or procedure, or from a first appointment right through to you being discharged.
We have been working with hospitals across Greater Manchester, and further afield, to find ways to bring waiting times down. Where we have found that hospitals have shorter waiting times and capacity to treat extra patients, hospitals have contacted patients to offer them the opportunity to be seen sooner.
During summer 2024, around 1,200 people in Greater Manchester were contacted and offered the chance to move.
We are now asking all patients who were contacted to complete a survey to share their experience, whether the offer to transfer was accepted or declined. This will help us to help more people receive timely hospital care.
If you need any help to complete the survey or would like a copy in another format or language, please contact us at gmhscp.engagement@nhs.net or 07786 673762.
