With only two weeks before the National Booking Service (NBS) appointments close in mid-June, we are urging those at highest risk of getting seriously unwell if they catch COVID-19 to come forward for their free spring booster vaccination if they haven’t already to top up their protection this spring.
Out of the 316,691 residents in Greater Manchester eligible for the spring booster, only 128,248 (around 40%) have had it so far, which is why we are urging anyone who hasn’t already taken up the offer of the free vaccine to make sure they do before the closing date.
Important dates to remember
Eligible people have until Monday 16 June to book their COVID-19 spring booster vaccination appointment and until Tuesday 17 June to attend the appointment, which is why we are urging those of highest risk to book their jab today before the NBS closes.
Who is eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine?
Those eligible, include anyone:
- aged 75 or over (including those who will be 75 by 17 June this year)
- aged six months old to 74 years old with a weakened immune system because of a health condition or treatment
- who lives in a care home for older adults
Dr Helen Wall, clinical director for population health at NHS Greater Manchester, said:
“I would urge everyone who is eligible to get their COVID-19 spring booster vaccine.
“COVID-19 is still around and can be life-threatening for the most vulnerable people, which is why it’s so important that everyone who can gets vaccinated.
“The vaccine continues to provide the best protection against complications and being admitted to hospital from COVID-19, so please make sure you get vaccinated when offered and encourage loved ones who are eligible to do the same. It will not only keep you safe, but the people around you.
“So make sure you book your appointment before the 17th June through the National Booking Service, calling 119 or on the NHS App.”
