To mark this year’s Children’s Mental Health Week (9-15 February), we are asking Greater Manchester’s younger residents to share the spaces and places that give their mental health and wellbeing a boost.
We are asking children and young people to think about the places that make them feel safe and happy. Spaces where they can relax and feel like they belong. Places where they spend time with friends and feel listened to. It might be a place to enjoy a favourite hobby or to learn something new. We also want to know what makes these places easy to use, and if there are any places young people would like to go but can’t right now.
You can send an entry in writing, as an image or a video. You can even send a piece of artwork. They can be submitted individually or as a group. Contributions will be shared online and exhibited during the annual ‘The Future is Ours’ festival. They will be hosted by the Horsfall, the art gallery and creative space of 42nd Street Mental Health Charity.
This work is inspired by Children’s Mental Health Week (organised by national charity Place2Be.) This year the theme is ‘This Is My Place.’ The focus is on recognising the importance of friendships. It is also about how schools and communities create inclusive and nurturing environments where children and young people feel they belong.
