Employers: Get Involved
Employers can learn how to support staff with health conditions and access workplace guidance through WorkWell.
Early Support Matters
Getting help early can prevent long-term unemployment. People unemployed for under six months have a nearly 50% chance of finding a job, but this drops to 13% after ten years.
Mark Fisher, NHS Greater Manchester Chief Executive, said: “Too many people in our city-region are out of work due to poor health. WorkWell will help 8,000 people stay in or return to work, improving lives and wellbeing.”
Mayor Andy Burnham and Co-Chair of Greater Manchester Integrated Partnership added:”WorkWell is breaking barriers between health and employment services, helping more people access the right support at the right time.”
Success Stories
Claire, Matt, and Craig all faced job loss due to health struggles. With WorkWell’s help, they got the right support, found flexible work options, and regained financial stability.
Claire was out of work for six months due to mental health struggles. WorkWell covered travel costs, helped her talk to her employer about a phased return, and connected her with local support.
She said: “WorkWell gave me structure and motivation to get back to work.”
Matt, struggling after workplace bullying, was applying for lower-paid jobs due to a lack of confidence. WorkWell helped him regain self-belief, improve his interview skills, and secure a higher-paying IT role.
Craig’s Long Covid made full-time work difficult. WorkWell helped him adjust his hours, access financial support, and find help for his caregiving responsibilities. He said, “I felt lost, but WorkWell’s listened to me and helped me feel free of financial stress.
