Surgical hubs
Surgical hubs have been set up in Greater Manchester hospitals to offer people quicker access to surgery. They are a key part of our plans to address waiting list backlogs for planned hospital services.
There are surgical hubs available for adults as well as children and young people, detailed below. They will offer people the most routine types of surgery where an overnight stay in hospital is not needed.
Eligibility
Hospitals will contact any eligible patients on their waiting list if they could have surgery at a surgical hub. We would ask people to not contact hospitals about this directly.
Transport
We would strongly recommend that people take up the offer to have surgery at a surgical hub if they are offered it. This will help our local hospitals to address waiting list backlogs.
If transport is an issue this should be discussed with the hospital. More information and advice can also be found on our dedicated transport webpage.
Key information
Any patients transferred to a surgical hub to have their surgery should be aware that:
- Their clinical records will be made available to the team at the surgical hub to ensure continuity of care.
- They will be informed if the plan is for their existing consultant or a member of their team to do their surgery at the surgical hub, or,
- They will be informed if the plan is for their care to transfer completely to a new consultant and their team at the surgical hub.
