The Children’s Community Nursing Team consists of several work streams that deliver the service: acute, complex, phlebotomy, epilepsy and cystic fibrosis.
The acute team provides nursing care for acutely unwell children, this includes the nursing assessment of children with an acute illness i.e., respiratory, febrile illness, removal of clips/sutures, Intravenous antibiotics, Injections, wound care (trauma and post operative care).
The complex team care for children and young people with a life limiting or life-threatening condition, this includes children who are technology dependant. The child must have a nursing need. We also support the delivery End of Life care at home if this is the family’s choice working closely with partners such as Derian House Children’s Hospice and our tertiary colleagues.
The Children’s Community Nursing Team also has two epilepsy specialist nurses and a cystic fibrosis lead nurse.
