It takes pace from 1pm to 3.30pm on Wednesday 6 Nov 2024 at The Bridge Church, Bradford Street, BL2 1JX.
People who have undergone, or are completing, treatment for cancer are encouraged to attend. They can find out about the support, information, advice and facilities available to help them adjust to life with and beyond cancer.
Bolton NHS Foundation Trust and Bolton Macmillan Cancer Information and Support are organising the event.
Carrie (62), a former cancer patient, volunteers with the Macmillan service. She said: “The events area valuable source of information for anyone affected by cancer. We would encourage people to attend and get as much information as possible. It will help you to be better informed about the services on offer and how they can make a positive difference to your everyday life.
“Sharing your experience with others and talking about concerns can also help to alleviate a lot of the stress and anxiety associated with a diagnosis.”
What is happening?
The event will include talks about:
- The service offered by Bolton Macmillan Cancer Information and Support
- The emotional effects of cancer
- ‘Prehab’ for cancer
Free refreshments will be available. You can talk to people with similar experiences, which can provide reassurance, reduce anxiety and combat isolation.
Kelly Gordon, Macmillan Cancer Information and Support manager, added: “This is a particularly difficult time for many patients. They often feel they lose the safety net of support they receive when they are attending the hospital regularly for treatment and often find it difficult to return to everyday activities.
“We would encourage you to bring a friend or family member with you, as much of the information may be of interest to them too.”
Booking is essential as places are limited. Contact Sue Summerfield, Kelly Gordon, Beth Baugh or Jackie Wright, on 01204 390 625 or email boh-tr.boltoncancerinfo@nhs.net.
